A continuous innovation project
Our collaboration with MEF has been going on for 7 years now. Seven years of working side by side on a substantial, dynamic project from which, in turn, we have learned a lot, always starting from the client’s needs.
Continuous and precise collaboration has indeed been the key to the success that has characterized this innovation project. First and foremost, let’s get to know the company:
Established in 1968, MEF (Materiale Elettrico Firenze) quickly became a leading company in the electrical material distribution industry, with a particular focus on product diversification and technological innovation. Since 2015, MEF has been part of the Würth Group in the W.EG. division, the area specialized in the distribution of electrical material for Würth Group. Today, the company has 42 sales points across the national territory, approximately 600 employees, 19,000 active customers, and more than 300 suppliers.

The project with MEF is characterized, as mentioned earlier, by its substantiality. In fact, we started with the company’s need to organize and manage approximately 30,000 products to integrate them into the new B2B e-shop. Therefore, there were two requirements:
- Manage the information on all company products.
- Digitize and organize documents from pre and post-sales.
To standardize, track, and organize 30,000 products, bringing out and enhancing the specifics of a predominantly B2B market, there is one tool: our PIM Libra. Developed entirely by our technicians, Libra is the PIM designed and created based on the specific needs of the B2B market. Highly customizable, Libra PIM helps marketing professionals significantly improve the quality, accuracy, and completeness of product data, simplifying and speeding up catalog management.
For document digitization and organization, we chose to develop the solution using HCL technology, specifically through the HCL Connection product (formerly IBM Connections). This approach allowed MEF to bring together all corporate documentation, both institutional and commercial, in a horizontal structure with more than 150 communities, exchanging real-time product information, and sharing best practices for managing specific internal processes. All of this is accessible and workable even through mobile apps, with dedicated wikis for corporate procedures, technical guides, and industry blogs.
With this project, MEF has simplified and made more effective the management of the information flow associated with its offerings and easily organized and enclosed all products and their specifications into the new online e-shop.
The long journey and work done side by side have also been recognized by the Würth Group, which has awarded official certificates of appreciation to two of our colleagues involved in the project, for their valuable work during these years of collaboration.
